Mum was born on January 24, 1943. Sheila Rose(nblit), she was a second daughter to Rachel and David Rosenblit. Born in London the family later moved to Westcliff to be by the sea which -- it was hoped -- would be good for David who had angina. Her older sister Brenda (who married John Katten and had 3 children, Deborah, Michael and Adam was born 7 years earlier. Her Hebrew name is שולמית בת רחל ודוד.
Dad was born on May 20, 1938. Hyam Corney, a first child to Freda and Meir Corney. 7 years later a brother arrived, Laurence Corney (who married Hilary Royston). The couple had 6 children: Lisa, Simon, Clifford, Daniel, Rachel and Deborah and a dog, Charlie.
On October 24, 1964 Hyam and Sheila - who had met at The Jewish Chronicle - were married at Willesden synagogue. They lived in Edgware, first at 25 Wyre Grove, then at 20 Broadhurst Avenue, then later at 22 Grosvenor Road in Borehamwood.
In June 2002 they made Aliya to 24 David Hamelech Street, Netanya, opposite The Park Hotel, which had - a few months prior on the first night of Pesach - been the victim of a terror attack.
In 2014 Hyam was diagnosed with Parkinson's, a terrible neurological disease that his mother had been a victim of as well. He battled the disease valiantly, initially playing tennis a few times a week and did not even reveal to anyone that he had received the diagnosis, but in 2022 he succumbed to complications from the illness.
